In a post from earlier today, Jeff Goldstein looks at the bigger struggle that is being played-out throughout the whole of The United States and why Cliven Bundy’s war is our war.

Say what you want about the civil disobedience being deployed by Mr Bundy in the slimy world of cronyism that marks so much of Nevada politics; but the fact is, the stand he’s taking, while it may eschew federal court rulings, is nonetheless worth supporting, if only because it draws attention to the draconian means the federal bureaucracies are prepared to use to harass individual private property owners — even as the amount of undeveloped land in the US remains at about 95%, a staggering figure. As was the 200 armed enforcement officers with weapons the government deployed to try to neutralize this heretic.
I highly recommend reading all of Jeff’s post because, like me, you’ll be provided with some very powerful ammunition which will aide in combating those in this country who want to eliminate Private Property.

So the blandly named “Bureau of Land Management” is managing an area the size of Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Portugal combined. Just in Nevada.
In total, the Bureau of Land Management rules over one-eighth of the land mass of the United States. That’s about the size of South Africa – or about three-sevenths of the G7: France, Germany and Italy combined.
You know the way governors like to say, “If California were a country…” or “if Texas were a country…” it would be the twelfth biggest economy in the world or whatever it is? If the Bureau of Land Management were a country, it would be the 26th biggest country in the world – out of 200 or so. Maybe that’s why the BLM needs such a lavishly equipped army…. Maybe it should join Nato and send a division or two to protect the Baltic states.
If BLM were Microsoft or Standard Oil, there’d be an anti-trust investigation. Instead, the BLMpire is the biggest collective farm in history, beyond the wildest dreams of Soviet commissars. Except that, as the Bundys have discovered, no one’s allowed to farm it. It’s serfdom without the perks.
The incoming Emir of the United BLM-irates is apparently some buddy of Harry Reid. Where do you go to vote him out? In the one-eighth of the United States he reigns over, there is not a single polling station. And in the seven-eighths where there are, he’s not on the ballot.
Poor old Cliven Bundy is probably doomed to end his days in jail or destitution or both. But he will have done his nation a great service if his sacrifice brings to an end this affront to accountable government.
One gets the feeling that, in the coming years, a good number of True Americans will end their days ‘in jail or destitution or both’.
We each have to ask ourselves if we are willing to make such a sacrifice — a sacrifice that in a more nobler age was worded thusly:
…we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.
We can either do our Duty or join that long and pathetic list of those who betrayed the trust placed in them by The Founding Fathers — who acted as mere agents of our Creator — and who condemned their Posterity to needless suffering and misery.
A Loving and Merciful God bestowed on the people of The United States the natural rights to Life, to Liberty, and to Property. He placed the maintenance of those rights in our hands, entrusted them to our care. And, as Samuel Adams wrote in 1772:
If men, through fear, fraud, or mistake, should in terms renounce or give up any essential natural right, the eternal law of reason and the grand end of society would absolutely vacate such renunciation. The right to freedom being the gift of God Almighty, it is not in the power of man to alienate this gift and voluntarily become a slave.
I know not what course others may take, but as for me: I will not be a slave; I will either Live Free Or Die.
