It seems that Mark Steyn pretty much agrees with those of us who believe that we are likely heading into an age of Modern Feudalism:
So what does every initiative of the Obama era have in common? Obamacare, Obamaphones, Social Security disability expansion, 50 million people on food stamps . . . The assumption is that mass, multi-generational dependency is now a permanent feature of life. A coastal elite will devise ever smarter and slicker trinkets, and pretty much everyone else will be a member of either the dependency class or the vast bureaucracy that ministers to them. And, if you’re wondering why every Big Government program assumes you’re a feeble child, that’s because a citizenry without “work and purpose” is ultimately incompatible with liberty. The elites think a smart society will be wealthy enough to relieve the masses from the need to work. In reality, it would be neo-feudal, but with fatter, sicker peasants. It wouldn’t just be “economic inequality,” but a far more profound kind, and seething with resentments.
The Elite will live in gated and walled communities thinking that they’re safe from the waddling, sedentary Proles and they might well be, as long as they keep tossing the bread at them and providing ever-stimulating circuses for their entertainment and diversion, but their Paradise will not long endure if they let any members of the Productive Class survive. Some of the Left knows this, but many do not. The latter will be quite surprised when we easily storm their gates and scale their walls.
Those members of the Elite who do understand the danger of letting us live with our beliefs in freedom and liberty intact are, for know, moving subtlety convert us, see that we’re absorbed, as it were, into the Collective Body, but in light of the fact that we True Americans are a stubborn lot [it's obviously now in our DNA — the Don't Tread On Me gene] I think we have to ask just how long before the Elites throw subtlety away in frustration and begin to utilize more overt and coercive means.
I don’t know.
But I do know that all of us should be using this time of subtlety to prepare our defenses, both physical and philosophical [or 'spiritual', if you will].
Never forget that, in this Age Of Leftist Hegemony, we are the enemy.
We are OUTLAWS.
We should act accordingly.
