One measure of just how cynical of a man I am is that I agree with this assessment over at Quadrant Magazine by Peter Smith:
….My view (and I believe it to be the realistic one) is that universal health insurance will become the new reality in the United States, however much damage the current scheme causes. I don’t think one example can be found where any significant left-wing societal or economic change, once introduced, has been materially abandoned in the West. Reagan and Thatcher may have partially stemmed the tide but that is all they managed to do for all of their admirable intentions and rhetoric.
Western societies move on inexorably in the same leftward direction. The war is almost certainly lost. Only victories in skirmishes and damage limitation seem possible. But, make no mistake that is still worth the effort. And, of course, we can always speculate optimistically on the possibility of a new Reagan or Thatcher entering the fray and doing even better than the originals.
Look, the The United States Of America as we all knew it during our lifetimes is gone.
Of course, it was never actually what we thought it was. Every single American alive today has lived in during the times of the Left’s ascendancy — what I like to call The Age Of Leftist Hegemony, where Leftist Thinking has dominated our Society and Culture.
In such an environment, with Leftist Thinking being so dominant, the only retreats that can be forced out of the Progressives are tactical ones. They will never abandon their strategy, which is to fundamentally transform America into a Socialist nation. Most of the Left In America — at least those who have maneuvered themselves into power in our institutions — possess enough low-cunning to understand that this march to Utopia will have to occur in fairly slow steps over a period of time.
They were patient enough to take decades to bring about Democracy here.
And they are willing now to take the time to implement the next small step: achieving a Fascist/Corporatist state, which is what the Left has been working towards since 2006.
Once this goal is reached, perhaps they will rest for a decade or two to give their enslaved comrades time to mentally adjust to this form of Despotism [and while they're at it, the Leftists in charge will continue to do whatever it takes to eliminate their opposition], but, at some point, the Totalitarians will begin the next transformation.
Leftists have rejected conventional [normal] religion and have embraced a perverted form of theology, which is Gnostic in nature. They see themselves as gods who are tasked collectively with making new universe. They are stars, they are golden, and they’ve got to get themselves back to The Garden, as it were. But this new Garden Of Eden will end-up being a horror show, filled with misery, despair, and death most brutal, because the gods who made it were filled with Hubris — and Hubris is always followed by Nemesis. And this always happens because imperfect creatures such as Men cannot create Perfection — to try and do so is to violate Nature and, more importantly in my thinking, Nature’s God.
In the end, the Leftists, the Gnostics, will fail, fail utterly, but, they will drag the rest of us down into the furthest depths of Hell in the process, if we do not resist
Circling back to the beginning…
Mr. Smith is spot-on when he writes:
…The war is almost certainly lost. Only victories in skirmishes and damage limitation seem possible. But, make no mistake that is still worth the effort….
Indeed, it is, because it is the right thing to do. The preservation of our freedoms and liberties, which are a gift from God [or 'Nature', if you are not a believer], is the noblest end any Human Being can seek because, from Freedom and Liberty enjoyed, flows all that is good and right, as experience has taught us.
The United States Of America is physically lost, but the idea of The United States will live on. Therefore, we must fight to preserve that idea and make it live physically again wherever possible in some form.
We owe this much to our American Ancestors and to our Posterity.
I know not what course others may take, but as for me:
I will not be a slave; I will either Live Free Or Die.
